Chapter 43 Recuperation
Chapter 43 Recuperation
The sky began to lighten at dawn.
The campfire inside the cave had burned out, leaving only a wisp of smoke rising. The cave was quiet, with only the soft breathing of the four people inside.
Keisha was the first to wake up.
She opened her eyes and found herself still leaning on Zhao Chen's shoulder. Zhao Chen's arm was still around her, his grip neither too tight nor too loose, as natural as if she were asleep.
Keisha paused for a second, and the memories of last night flooded back into her mind—the kiss, the words, and the fact that she hadn't pushed him away.
Her cheeks felt a little hot.
She stirred slightly, trying to move away from Zhao Chen's embrace. But as soon as she moved, Zhao Chen opened his eyes.
Those golden pupils were so close, reflecting her face.
"woke up?"
Keisha turned her face away, not daring to look at him.
"……Um."
Zhao Chen didn't say anything more, he just let go of her hand and helped her sit up.
Keisha took a deep breath, forcing herself to calm down. She looked at the other side of the fire—Liang Bing was still fast asleep, sprawled out on her back, while He Xi had already woken up and was leaning against the rock wall, his gaze fixed on her.
There was a hint of inquiry in his gaze.
Keisha's heart skipped a beat, and she looked away.
He Xi didn't say anything, she just nodded slightly.
"Good morning," she said.
Keisha nodded, stood up, and walked to the cave entrance.
The sky outside was hazy and gray, with a few dim stars still hanging on the horizon. This planet has no atmosphere, and you can see an endless sea of stars just by looking up.
Looking at the stars and thinking about what happened last night, she felt very confused.
Footsteps sounded behind me.
Keisha did not turn around.
"What are you thinking about?"
It was He Xi's voice.
Keisha remained silent for a moment.
"It's nothing."
He Xi walked to her side and stood next to Keisha.
"You and him last night..."
"Nothing happened," Keisha suddenly interrupted her.
He Xi turned her head to look at her, her gaze calm.
"Um."
Keisha felt a little uncomfortable under her gaze, but He Xi didn't press the matter further.
"He looks..." He Xi paused, "not like those male angels."
Keisha was taken aback.
"What do you mean?"
He Xi thought for a moment.
"He exudes a strong murderous aura; he must have killed many people. But the way he looks at you... is different." She looked away. "You should be able to sense it yourself."
Keisha remained silent.
Of course she could feel it. When those golden eyes looked at her, there was none of the greed and frivolity typical of male angels; there was only something... very pure.
She couldn't explain what it was.
But she doesn't dislike it.
"sister!"
A cold voice came from behind, breaking the silence.
Keisha turned her head and saw Liang Bing walking over, rubbing her eyes. Her hair was messy and there was drool on the corner of her mouth.
"Good morning!" Liang Bing leaned closer, her eyes darting between Keisha and Zhao Chen. "How did you sleep last night?"
Keisha remained expressionless.
"very good."
"Oh~" Liang Bing drawled out the last syllable, "I think someone is sleeping better."
She gestured towards Zhao Chen with her lips.
Keisha took a deep breath.
"Liang Bing"
"arrive!"
Go wash up.
"There's no water here..." Liang Bing muttered, but still obediently left.
Keisha watched her leave, shaking her head helplessly.
He Xi chuckled softly.
"That girl just has a sharp tongue."
Keisha didn't say anything.
-
Half an hour later, the four people sat around the fire.
While munching on dry rations, Liang Bing stole glances at Keisha and Zhao Chen, unable to suppress the smile on her lips.
Keisha, unable to bear her gaze any longer, finally asked, "What are you looking at?"
"Look at you, sis!" Liang Bing blinked. "You look much better today than yesterday!"
Keisha took a deep breath and decided to ignore her.
He Xi looked at Zhao Chen.
"What are your plans for the future?"
Zhao Chen remained silent for a moment.
"Didn't you say yesterday that you wanted to overthrow the male angel?"
He Xi and Liang Bing both looked at Keisha.
Keisha thought for a moment.
"We have to save the others first," she said. "There are more than just the three of us female angels who are willing to rebel against Hua Ye. They are probably still being enslaved in various mines, working for those male angels."
He Xi's eyes narrowed slightly.
"Several of my sisters from the Celestial Family have been exiled to the Dark Copper Mine in the North. It's heavily guarded, but if we intervene, we might be able to rescue them."
Liang Bing raised her hand.
"As for the Apocalypse family... my followers were also sent to the mines. Although my grandfather has me under house arrest, he doesn't care about those ordinary female angels at all. If Hua Ye wants people, he'll hand them over."
Keisha nodded, then looked at Zhao Chen.
"And you? Would you like to come with us?"
Zhao Chen looked at her.
"You are my woman," he said. "Your business is my business."
Liang Bing covered her mouth and chuckled, but was glared at fiercely by Keisha.
He Xi looked at Zhao Chen thoughtfully.
"You must be very strong, but what are your chances of winning if you fight Hua Ye head-on?"
Zhao Chen thought for a moment.
"Right now, 10%."
"What if you break through?"
Zhao Chen glanced at her.
"That depends on the extent of the breakthrough."
He Xi didn't ask any more questions.
Keisha was silent for a moment, then suddenly stood up.
"Let's rest here for a few days." She looked at Zhao Chen. "Is it safe here?"
Zhao Chen nodded.
"It's safe here."
Liang Bing's eyes lit up.
"So, are we going to go rescue them next?"
Keisha glanced at her.
"Focus on healing your injuries first, then plan how to rescue people."
Liang Bing pouted, but still obediently sat down.
Keisha looked at Zhao Chen.
"Can you help us? I mean, really help us."
Zhao Chen met her gaze.
"able."
Keisha stared into his eyes for a few seconds, then looked away.
"Thanks."
Zhao Chen's lips curled up into a very faint smile.
"Need not."
-
When night falls again.
The four of them settled down in the cave. Liang Bing quickly fell asleep, while He Xi leaned against the cave wall and closed her eyes to rest.
Keisha sat by the fire, staring blankly at the flickering flames.
Footsteps sounded behind me.
Zhao Chen sat down next to her.
The two remained silent for a while.
Keisha suddenly spoke.
"Are you really willing to help us? Not because of me... because of that condition?"
Zhao Chen looked at her.
"Because it's you."
Keisha's heart skipped a beat.
She looked away without saying a word.
But the corners of his mouth unconsciously turned up in a tiny arc.
The flames flickered.
It was very quiet inside the cave.
