Chapter 30 Strange Light Bands and a Turning Point in the Desert
The multicolored ribbon of light shimmered in the desert sky, like a dreamlike silk ribbon, adorning the originally dull and monotonous sky with dazzling brilliance. As the light flickered, a mysterious power seemed to flow within it, inspiring awe in all who beheld it.
Huanmo stared at the band of light in the sky, his eyes filled with surprise and confusion. He had just been struggling against the ferocious sand beast, but now his attention was drawn to this sudden appearance of light. He wondered to himself, what was the origin of this light? Why had it appeared at this time, and why did it terrify the sand beast? However, regardless, this might be a turning point for them to escape their current predicament. He turned to look at Wanru, who was also staring wide-eyed at the light, the fear on her face fading slightly, replaced by the same curiosity and anticipation.
Wanru was filled with mixed emotions. She had just witnessed Huanmo being struck and knocked down by the sand beast, her heart pounding in her chest, her mind filled with worry for Huanmo. Now, this strange band of light brought new uncertainty. She both hoped it would resolve their crisis with the sand beast and feared it would bring new, unknown dangers. In this vast desert, every new situation was like a double-edged sword, filling one with both anticipation and dread.
The man in white stopped playing his jade flute, his gaze fixed intently on the band of light. He knew this desert was shrouded in mystery, and every strange phenomenon might hold a deeper meaning. The appearance of this band of light might be the intervention of some mysterious force, or perhaps it was guiding them in some direction. He frowned slightly, pondering a solution, his grip on the jade flute unconsciously tightening.
Qingwan clutched the spirit pearl tightly, its light dimming slightly under the glow of the band of light. Her face remained pale, her eyes filled with worry. The mysteries of this desert made her realize how little she truly knew about it. She gazed at the band of light, silently praying that it would be a turning point, helping them find their way out of the desert, or at least temporarily freeing them from the threat of the sand beasts.
The white tiger lay quietly to the side, its blue eyes also fixed on the band of light, occasionally letting out a low growl, seemingly both curious and wary of the appearance of the band of light.
The once ferocious sand beast now resembled a frightened kitten, curling up and growling incessantly, its eyes fixed on the band of light, not daring to relax for a moment.
As everyone watched the band of light with puzzlement, it suddenly began to descend slowly, drifting towards a spot in the desert. As the band of light moved, the sand and dust in its path scattered, as if pushed aside by an invisible force, clearing a path through the desert.
Seeing this, Huanmo had an idea and said, "This band of light seems to be guiding us to somewhere. Should we follow it and see?"
Wanru hesitated, worried that this was another trap, but seeing Huanmo's determined eyes and considering that they didn't have a better solution at the moment, she nodded and said, "Well... alright then, but everyone should still be careful."
The man in white and Qingwan agreed, so led by the white tiger, they followed the passage opened up by the light band and headed in the direction where the light band fell.
Along the way, the desert heat remained unbearable. The scorching sun relentlessly baked the earth, and the sand was so hot it almost melted the soles of their shoes. The group struggled forward under the blazing sun, their clothes soaked with sweat, which evaporated instantly, leaving only patches of white sweat stains.
As they drew closer, the spot where the light had fallen gradually became clearer. It was an ancient ruin, its architectural style quite peculiar, constructed from massive piles of stones, each engraved with various mysterious symbols and patterns, somewhat similar to what they had seen earlier on the stone platform of the pavilion on the island.
As they reached the entrance to the ruins, the ribbon of light drifted down and then slowly disappeared, as if it had completed its mission.
Huanmo cautiously entered the ruins, with the others following closely behind. The ruins were filled with an ancient aura, and the light was dim, with only a few rays of sunlight filtering through the cracks, barely illuminating the surroundings.
Wanru gripped Huanmo's clothes tightly, her heart pounding uncontrollably. The ruins had a sinister feel to them; she didn't know what dangers lurked within, and only hoped to find a clue to leave this place quickly, and escape this terrifying desert.
The man in white, holding a jade flute, warily surveyed his surroundings, ready to deal with any potential dangers.
Qingwan then raised the spirit pearl, chanting incantations, attempting to use its light to illuminate more areas so that they could better observe the situation within the ruins.
As everyone carefully explored the ruins, a low buzzing sound suddenly came from deep within the ruins. The sound seemed to come from underground and grew louder and louder, making people's ears feel a stinging pain.
Huanmo stopped and gestured for everyone to be quiet. He watched the direction from which the sound came warily and said, "Everyone be careful, there's some noise!"
Wanru was so frightened that she hid behind Huanmo, and her body began to tremble uncontrollably again.
The man in white also stopped what he was doing and listened intently to the source of the buzzing sound.
Qingwan raised the spirit pearl higher, making it shine even brighter, in an attempt to see the situation ahead more clearly.
As the buzzing grew louder, the ground of the ruins began to tremble slightly, and dust began to fall in rustling sounds.
Suddenly, a dense swarm of sand worms emerged from the depths of the ruins. These sand worms were small in size but numerous in number, their bodies covered in hard exoskeletons that shimmered with a metallic sheen in the dim light. They crawled rapidly toward the group, emitting sharp squeaking sounds as if announcing their arrival.
Huanmo's heart tightened; he knew a new battle was inevitable. He glanced at Wanru, the man in white, and Qingwan behind him, and shouted, "Don't be afraid, everyone! Let's go together and hold off these sandworms!"
After saying that, he charged towards the sand worms first. Since he didn't have a sword, he attacked the sand worms with his fists and feet.
The man in white also put the jade flute to his lips and played a rapid tune, attempting to use the power of the jade flute to interfere with the sandworm's movements.
Qingwan focused all her efforts on maintaining the protective barrier of the spirit orb to prevent the sand worms from breaking through the barrier and attacking everyone.
Wanru was extremely anxious. She looked around, hoping to find something that could help everyone. Suddenly, her gaze fell on an ancient pottery jar in a corner of the ruins. The jar was engraved with some strange symbols, which seemed to have some connection with the surrounding environment.
